Week 12 This week we get the Commander's Cupola
The bits we received
And what we did with them
I started by construction the two sub assemblies.
The hatch cover was painted dark yellow, as per the instructions. The opening was painted ivory on the inside, then masked and the outside painted dark yellow.
The rest of the assembly is straight forward. I only screwed the screw holding the spring in just enough so that it held firmly as the spring is a little strong, and I don't want to strain the handle when it is opened. The hatch tends to stick, so I may try putting a light smear of silicon spray (or furniture polish) on the peg to lubricate it a little. However, this is best done after all painting and weathering is completed as the silicon will stop paint sticking.
Foot note : It is worth trimming the bottom stud off the machine gun mount to give you a larger area to glue to.
I also drilled out the hole for the hatch pin to about 4.2mm which has stopped the hatch sticking.
Things not done yet
Issue 9 : Assemble the turret.
Issue 11 : Paint and fit spare track links.
Issue 12 : Paint and complete the commander's cupola
