Week 89  This week we get the next set of gearbox parts

The bits we received

And what we did with them

The dials are glued to the instrument panel, and the detail to the rear gearbox cover.  These parts are ready for painting now.

The drive shaft won't be glued in just yet.  I'll leave that until the whole drive train is complete and can be glued in at the same time to ensure a perfect alignment.

The gearbox end covers were sprayed gunmetal and glued in place.

Now on to the decals.  First, and importantly, cut off the dashed lines.  These are printed on, but just on the paper, not on a carrier film.  If you leave them on, when you put the decal in water these will just float off, and get everywhere !.

Apply the decals individually.  Just cut out one at a time and soak it.  I used Decal Set to improve adhesion, but it's not essential.  If you do, just paint Decal Set onto the area where the decal will be placed.  It will improve the adhesion and also soften the decal a little to make it sink into any curves better.  Slide the decal off the paper and into position.  Use a cocktail stick to help position it, and then use a cotton bud to remove any excess liquid.  When the decals were completely dry, I painted Revell Contacta Clear over the dials to represent glass.  It's not done on this photo, but is done a couple of photos down.  I also picked out the switches in black and red and green buttons.  This is just to make it look more interesting.  I've no idea if it is accurate or not as I couldn't find any references.

Here I've painted the radios.  Again, it's all fanciful as I couldn't find any references.  I think it looks good though.

Finally, the radio console, instrument console, and other details are added.  You can see I've painted the knobs orange/brown.  Again, fanciful, but I just wanted to add a bit more colour.

Here it the radio side of the gearbox.

I will do a bit of weathering to this before fixing it at a later date.

The drive shaft is painted, but not fitted yet.

The drive shaft is fitted in week 103
